Saturday 1.

On Thursday Ann's middle brother (David) and his wife Maureen spent the day with us. The photo shows Ann about to dish up lunch in our small kitchen/dining room, with David and Maureen seated. We had chicken breasts in a mushroom sauce, with mashed potatoes, runner beans from the garden, and carrots. Followed by a hot Swiss trifle, made with chocolate cake and pears (and a good dash of brandy). It was very good (but when Ann and I cleared it up for supper later, it was even better cold). After lunch - which was lingered over- Ann and Maureen went clothes shopping, whilst Dave and I went to our local hardware shop to look for some woodstain that he needed - found it, too. On our walk back I showed David (at his request) more of the town's historic buildings. Had a very light tea - i.e. pot of tea and some spicy malt-loaf that Ann has been - 'experimenting with' is the phrase I suppose. Great success, too. Rather like a really good bread pudding. I hope she has kept the recipe. Dave and Mo set off home at 6.30, which gave us just nicely time to pick up Margaret, our senior choir member, and get round to St. Mary's for choir practice - went well for once.
Today, Saturday, we met Sue, David, and Coral at Crabtrees for coffee. Also met Fiona (founder of Crabtrees), and spent a very pleasant forty minutes catching up on local news and gossip- long time since we've done this, and must do it more often. Seem to have been too busy lately. This afternoon wedding at St. Mary's at which choir was required (horrible pun there), so we both attended and sang. Nearly time for supper now, so must knock off. Goodnight all.
